Achilles was sent by his father as a youth to be educated by Chiron the centaur but the scene also foreshadows Achilles’ future as a warrior, with the owl, representing Athena goddess of war, perched in the tree. The engraving is inscribed with the initials CCG and M and a date 1758 on the column to the right of the picture. The picture is double mounted in a black contemporary frame with gilt slip. It has not been opened up to see if the names of artist and printer are hidden under the mount. In very good condition.
