A totally enchanting advertising figure dating from c.1920s/1930s. This charming figure, depicting what is widely believed to be a Smooth Fox Terrier (but also thought to be a crossbreed - possibly with Jack Russell or even Bull Terrier) is made of mesh-reinforced plaster with a most attractive slightly chalky matt painted finish. He sits on an original plinth with a cleverly applied paint-stain grained finish to simulate hardwood. Nipper, a real dog in the late Victorian era, served as the model for an 1898 painting by Francis Barraud titled His Master''s Voice. The appealing face and its tactile soft matt finish make this a truly exquisite example.
