Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and impressive Meiji Period 1868-1912 bronze and mixed metalwork vase by the well recorded and highly regarded metalworker Miyabe Atsuyoshi. The vase stems from the larger scale of items produced by this particular artist, rather unusually its designed to stand at an angle to best display the main scene of birds in flight and birds sat upon a maple tree during a shower of rain, the reverse similarly decorated with native birds amidst flora. Atsuyoshi has used the angular top corners to great effect by enveloping them with a pair of mixed metal moths aside a pair of shakudo bats, these creatures brought together with stylised swags of flora, the angular neck rim appears tied with a geometric silver inlaid chain link, whilst the underside is fully artist signed, Dai Nihon Kyoto ju Ikkodo Miyabe Atsuyoshi with kao, a fascinating market fresh example of this highly skilled metalwork artists work.
