Georgian Silver Leaf-shaped Caddy Spoon by Joseph Taylor, Birmingham 1798

18th century
Description

This delightful George III silver caddy spoon was made by the Birmingham silversmith and *toy maker John Taylor, who specialised in small pieces and objects of vertu. The leaf-shaped bowl bright-engraved around a veined centre. The end with a very pretty tendril loop handle.

Leaf-shape caddy spoons are very collectable and this is a wonderful example by a renowned silversmith.

* from the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham.
