Silver Stauffer half hunter pocket watch and chain.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, signed with the Stauffer mark, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover. There is a little scratching to this inner cover but not too deep.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the covers for London (import mark), 1916 with a sponsor’s mark for Charles Nicolet who assumed control over Stauffer in 1874. The case is in good condition, just minor surface marking but nothing serious at all.

The front cover has a small central lens which is surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in good condition.

The dial has a few hairline cracks but they are difficult to see with the naked eye. Blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes with a silver double chain hallmarked for 1904 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmith Henry Pope. Also included is a silver fob, also hallmarked for 1904 with a maker’s mark for Joseph and Richard Griffin, also silversmiths based in Birmingham. The fob has general surface marks but is free from any inscriptions.

The watch and chain come in a vintage presentation box.
