A gallery tray is a serving platter defined by a raised border or rim, known as a gallery, which prevents glasses and tableware from slipping off during carriage. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these trays were constructed using fine timber bases combined with silver-plated or brass galleries.

Nineteenth-century gallery trays were commonly constructed using dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut for the base, paired with electroplated nickel silver or solid silver for the surrounding rim and handles.
