Joseph Emanuel Weiser (Paszków 1847 - Munich 1911) - German painter; studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1864-1865 and again in 1872-1876 as a student of Wilhelm von Diez. He went on study trips around Germany, to Austria and Italy. He settled permanently in Munich. In 1888 he became an honorary member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. In 1887 he painted a large, dramatically expressive painting Interrupted Weddings. He was also the author of canvases with themes drawn from ancient history, such as The Last Day of Pompeii. Above all, however, he painted genre pictures, often set in the realities of the 18th century, with heroes in Rococo costumes. He was a valued portraitist, he portrayed, among others Emperor William II and Charles Joseph Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria. He also worked for Louis II on the decoration of the Herrenchiemsee Palace, painting frescoes depicting Venus and Vulcan as well as Neptune and Amphitride.
