A Rare Pair of Georgian Silver Novelty Needle Guards

An interesting and rather rare item of early 19th Century sewing ware. These are a novelty pair of silver needle guards. Formed to represent slippers, they are beautifully engraved with acanthus details and are linked together by a chain. Needle guards were used when knitting needles had points at both ends, to prevent the stitches from sliding off. These wonderful collector's items are of Austro/Hungarian origin and are a great collector's item, both decorative and practical. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Excellent, with no splits, dents or losses.

Hallmarks :- Each slipper is hallmarked with E and 13, confirming a date of 1830-40.

Origin :- Austro/Hungarian.
