Description

A Fine Antique Hardwood Brass Bound and Studded Zanzibar Chest or Trunk. Of traditional design with lift up lid and candle/smalls box to one side. Carrying handles with escutcheons to each end. The lid, front and sides are beautifully decorated with brass stud and pierced plate in geometric patterns. Later straps internally. The chests have a fascinating cultural and historical story to tell. They were used to transport traded goods such as spices, gemstones and cottons through the main trade ports of Diu, Surat, Basra, Zanzibar & Bombay. Ideal at the end of a bed used as blanket boxes but also make interesting centre pieces when used as a coffee table.
