Marquetry case inlays and banding to the case edging. A well engraved thermometer scale and main dial. Signed to the dial 'J Somalvico 41, Kirby St. Hatton Garden'. Circa 1820.

The Somalvico family are recorded in Banfields 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working in the 18th and 19th century. They are well known and noted instrument makers.
