Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
In spite of its impressive and bold size, the minute detailing and intricacy of the engraving, design and niello-work is equally, if not more marvellous.

The spoons feature a finely hand-engraved foliate relief design with scrollwork that is contrasted with black niello and a finely stippled background.
The proportions of the handle, tapering and terminals are also delightfully elegant yet precise with further niello-work on the handles. Owing to its large and accommodating size, this pair would make for an excellent statement piece as an Imperial period Russian niello spoon and equally practical and versatile in serving fruit, berries, desserts etc.

Clear Russian hallmarks are present on the side of the stem of the spoon with the maker's mark, 84 mark and the Moscow delta symbol.
