Antique English Letters Box in Oak with Brass C.1880

Description

A wonderful table-top letter box made from solid English Oak with an attractive domed lid. These boxes were for the collection of mail in grand hotels, private clubs and the homes of the aristocracy where a member of staff would collect the mail and take to the post, very civilized!

The front of the letter slot has a large polished brass plate enamelled with the word " LETTERS ", the glass window at the bottom was for the staff to see if there was mail to be collected, above this, the collection times are posted.

Excellent condition dating to the late Victorian era, around 1880. Excellent condition with a footprint measuring 8 1/2" x 6 1/4" and stands 10 1/4" high.
