This fine Victorian burr walnut dwarf housekeepers’ cupboard was made circa 1860.
The drawers with their original solid walnut knob handles.
To each side of the centre chest are cupboards, one fitted with multiple linen slides, the other cupboard with shelves, again both doors are fitted with their original turned walnut knob handles, that operate the door catches.
The one-piece top (that lifts off for transport) has fine selected burr walnut.
This would have been made for a very wealthy client as this would have been at the top end of the price bracket when it was made.

It is easy to forget in these days of the diesel engine how much effort went into delivering a piece of furniture like this one in the 19thc. It would have taken hours if not days to get this to a home in the suburbs or further afield. It would have taken 2 porters as well as horses and wagons, perhaps also using a steam train.
