Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Danish floral still life paintings from this era typically feature naturalistic arrangements of domestic flowers, rendered with rich textures and attentive light work. Influenced by Scandinavian academic traditions, artists often focused on modest, everyday blooms such as pansies or field flowers.

Artisans used natural bristle brushes to apply oil pigments bound with linseed oil onto stretched linen canvas or wood panels. Frames were commonly constructed from timber carved or moulded with gesso, then finished with gold leaf or metallic paint.

Authenticity is verified by checking for period-correct canvas weave, age-appropriate craquelure across the paint surface, authentic artist signatures, and hardware or patina on the back of the timber stretcher and frame.

Position the framed canvas as a focal accent above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or desk to add depth and historical context. Combining classical gilt-framed artwork with clean modern furniture creates a balanced contrast in contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface lightly with a clean, soft, dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemical solvents. Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and radiators to prevent pigment fading or canvas warping.
