Description

An incredable Scottish Victorian agate and silver case with a gilt metal sewing set in a fitted compartment. Although unmarked it was probably made in Scotland around 1860. The lid is a "trompe l'oeil", a trick of the eye, the agates are cut and placed to give a 3D building block effect. The silver frame is beautifully engraved and also set with colourful agates. There is a locking hinge and a green baize base. The interior has a six piece gilt sewing set comprising of scissors, thimble, needle case, pen knife, threader and pencil all in a blue velvet fitting. There is also a vacant cartouch in the lid.
