Sold by: McKenzie Art and Design Limited

A fine and rare Art Nouveau Liberty & Co silver teapot designed by renowned designer Archibald Knox (British, 1864-1933) and dated 1900.

Archibald Knox, was a Manx designer of Scottish descent. He is best known as being Liberty''s primary designer at the height of their success and influence upon UK and International design. Knox''s work bridged the Arts and Crafts Movement, Celtic Revival, Art Nouveau, and Modernism and this teapot is a wonderful example of this.

The teapot stands raised on a narrow simple round foot with a round bulbous lower body and wide funnel shaped neck with a wooden loop handle attached to one side and a tall straight pouring spout to the other. The body of the teapot is decorated with embossed abstract design repeated around the tall funnel neck and adjoined by simple incised lines that are integral to the design. The teapot has a fitted cover which sits within a top recess with an inverse bell shaped finial. The teapot has Birmingham silver marks to the base dating the pot to 1900 and has makers marks L & C for Liberty & Co.

Provenance: acquired through the UK art market.

In good condition with a small dent to the surface of the lid finial and light general wear associated with age and use.
