Edwardian Mirror Back Sideboard

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Graham Pickett
Description

Good size Edwardian mahogany mirror back sideboard server with original bevelled mirror glass and quarter veneered drawer and door panels, circa 1910.

Offers lots of storage with the full width fixed shelf and drawers, but the mirror and high legs help to lighten the feel so it doesn’t dominate your room.

Good solid condition, but there are some age and use marks which I have left so the price reflects this…nothing awful, but mentioned so you are aware and can see the pics for more detail.

The mirror section comes off for ease of moving.

Measuring:

59 1/2 inches or 151 cm high

54 1/4 inches or 138 cm wide

19 1/2 inches or 49.5 cm deep

35 3/4 inches or 91 cm surface height.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early 20th century, an Edwardian mirror back sideboard combines lower storage compartments and drawers with an integrated framed mirror superstructure, designed to reflect light and enhance dining space decor.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as mahogany or oak, featuring decorative timber veneers like chevron or burr patterns, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display period-correct construction methods, including unrefined back boards, hand-finished drawer linings, original brass drop handles, and period silvering or bevelled edges on the mirror plate.

It serves as a functional statement piece in a dining room, hallway, or living space, providing substantial storage while contrasting with clean-lined modern lighting or contemporary artwork.

Regularly dust with a clean, soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish along the wood grain, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer shrinkage.
