Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1960s.
The artist was born in Sicily in 1925 and became a world re-nowned painter and was acclaimed in both continents as one of the few living artists worthy to be considered a descendant of the Italian Renaissance.

Wherever he has shown his paintings, critics and public alike have acknowledged him a rare living master and truly a Twentieth Centurt Phenomenon.
Arnot & Co on New York have been an established art gallery since 1878, and in past years have sold and commissioned many of his works.

I believe the artist is no longer alive and so collectors often snap up examples whenever they become available.
A normal sized painting for this artist would often be 24 Inches x 12 Inches ,and would show either apples or oranges, but rarely both as in our larger example, which also has a jug in the scene.

Condition is perfect and with a good light on the subject, the fine reflection and shadows cast from the jug are exceptionally well demonstrated.
The artists fine works were selling for around £160 back in the 1960's from galleries on the south coast, and so these prices were Hugh back then for such examples.
