Japanese Arita Kano design blue and white trumpet-shaped beaker vase Edo period circa 1680
The vase with a large flared rim and the body is painted with a continuous scene of scattered houses amongst a mountainous landscape of pine trees clouds, and mist. The slightly splayed foot with a stylized band of petals.
The vase is in excellent condition showing just one professionally sealed hairline as shown in the pics. A slight lean to one side has to be expected for such a large potted example of this form at this particular time. The vase stands approx. 47cm tall and the flared rim is approx 24.5cm in diameter.
The vase is painted in what is known as the Kano style which is specific to this design and period, circa 1670 1680.
Other examples are known, see Ayers, Impey & Mallet, Porcelain of the Palaces, Barry Davies Oriental Art, from the collection Oliver Impey plate 20 page 47. Also, an example is held in Sherborne Castle.
