Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced by the Leeds Fireclay Company from the late 19th century, Burmantofts Faience refers to architectural terracotta and decorative art pottery. These pieces were prominent during the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements, recognised for their rich glazes and relief mouldings.

These stands were typically crafted from earthenware or terracotta clay cast in plaster moulds, then fired with translucent glazes. Designs often incorporated relief panels depicting botanical motifs alongside drainage apertures near the base to prevent water collection.

Authentic examples usually bear impressed maker marks, shape numbers, or monograms on the unglazed base. Additionally, period pieces display characteristic glaze pooling in low-relief areas, heavy construction weight, and subtle crazing consistent with historical lead glazes.

Position the piece in an entryway or hallway beside a coat rack to function as a vessel for umbrellas and walking canes. Alternatively, it can serve as a floor-standing accent vessel in a corner, holding dried botanicals or standing independently as a sculptural element.

Wipe surfaces gently with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the glaze. Ensure the interior remains dry, using a removable plastic liner if active umbrellas are stored inside to prevent moisture ingress through unglazed bases.
