Antique Unique Victorian Solid Silver Gilt Dish in Flower Form - George Fox 1864

We are delighted to offer this gorgeous and unusual Victorian solid silver dish with the marks of George Fox, London 1864.

Upon first glance, the dish presents itself with splendour even to the untrained eye with an indulging fully silver-gilt surface (gold on top of solid silver).

To the seasoned collector, perhaps it is the unusual and unique form of the dish and its decorations that are most appealing. The dish has a raised border and a six-petal flower design with each edge being intricately decorated with a beaded border.

In addition to its wonderful gilt tone, the edges are finely engraved with various foliate and scrolled motifs that provide excellent contrast and accent to the overall design.

As mentioned above, the entire surface is gilt - this not only serves a luxurious aesthetic purpose but protects the silver underneath from oxidising/tarnishing with contents that may be held within.
