Coloured Pencil Drawing by Dora Meeson

1900 - 1920
Description

Coloured drawing of Eva Geddes by Dora Meeson (1868-1955). c. 1927.

Dora Meeson was born in Melbourne, Australia on the 7th August 1869. Mainly educated at home until she began her studies at the Christchurch School of Art in New Zealand. She studied in Paris between 1898-1899, where one of her works hung in the Old Salon. At the turn of the century she had moved to London to study at the Slade, with her future husband, George James Coates. They devoted themselves to their artistic careers and formed what became known as Trafalgar Studios. Dora was heavily involved with the Suffrage Movement and was a founder member in 1907, of the Artist’s Suffrage Movement (ASL), designing many banners for marches and demonstrations.
