A Mid Nineteenth Century Decalcomania Table Lamp

Description

A beautiful mid Nineteenth Century decalcomania table lamp; decorated with Chinoiserie scenes depicting a hunter on horseback surrounded by butterflies, parrots etc. on a white ground. In charming country house condition with a later carved mahogany base and engraved brass collar. The shade is sold separately and dimensions are to the top of the light fitting.

Circa 1850

Decalcomania is a transfer technique developed in the Eighteenth Century in which ink or paint is spread onto a surface and while still wet transferred to another material such as glass and on its removal it transfers a pattern or design that can be further embellished.
