Superb Twin Fusee , Geo 3rd, Bracket Clock. Thos Pitt of Frome.

19th century
Description

A very high class mahogany, twin fusee bracket clock by Thos Pitt, Bath Street, Frome. He is recorded in Loomes "Clock Makers of the World" as working in Frome in the late 17 hundreds.

An 8" white convex enamelled dial with black Roman numerals, clearly signed with the makers name. It has a convex glass and cast brass, key lockable, bezel.

The mahogany case retains it's original French-polished finish with a superb age-related deep warm, rich patina. It has generous brass stringing throughout, with silk backed brass sound frets to the sides and lions head carrying handles. The stepped top finishes with a gilt, pineapple finial (please note that the overall height shown excludes this finial) and a plinth base over 4 brass bun feet. it has a key lockable, glazed rear door.

The 8 day, twin fusee movement strikes the hours on a silvered bell with a crisp resonating tone. It has just been fully overhauled by our BHI staff and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee. It has an inverted adjusting pendulum of London style and a pendulum lock.

An outstanding example of a piece that encompasses every detail one would look for when purchasing a clock of this type.

All cards accepted.
