It dates from around 1880.It has its beautiful real original gilt (gold leaf) on gesso frame with a huge amount of ornate floral detail, scrolls on either side and a very large shell and floral crest. There are no chips at all. It has its wonderful mercury glass with no scratches. Mercury glass in this condition is very hard to find and gives a sparkle and reflection like no other!!It has all its original backboards (photo of these to follow).It would have originally been used as an overmantel mirror above a fireplace in a grand room with very high ceilings but it could also be used as a leaner mirror in a lounge, hall or bedroom.
