Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A portrait miniature is a small-scale, highly detailed painting, typically executed in watercolour on ivory, vellum, or card, designed as a portable keepsake or intimate personal portrait.

Mid-19th-century portrait miniatures were commonly painted using watercolour paints on stiffened card or ivory panel, then housed behind protective glass within ebonised wooden or papier-mache mounts with brass bezels.

Authentic period pieces feature period-correct clothing and hair styling, fine brushwork visible under magnification, naturally aged paper or card support, and period framing hardware such as acorn or leaf-shaped hanger mounts.

These small artworks are effectively displayed incorporated into a gallery wall arrangement, hung in narrow wall recesses, or placed on small easels within bookshelves alongside decorative ceramics.

To prevent fading and deterioration, display watercolour art away from direct sunlight and high humidity, ensure the protective glass remains sealed, and avoid cleaning with liquid chemical solvents.
