An unusual and superbly carved 19th Century English oak hall seat. The 2 carved panels to the back depicting Elizabethan scenes possibly of Queen Elizabeth I knighting Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. The hinged seat opens to a useful storage area for shoes or boots etc. and flanked by wonderfully carved winged griffin arms. The front of the settle having two carved panels incorporating lion mask heads and the whole raised on lion’s paw front feet. Condition- Very good. Dimensions:- Height… 43.5''/ 110.5cm.
