A silver sovereign case is a small, portable container designed during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to carry gold sovereign and half-sovereign coins securely in a pocket or attached to a watch chain.

These cases were typically constructed from sterling silver, nickel silver, or gold, often incorporating internal steel spring mechanisms to push coins upward when opened.

Authentic pieces generally feature British hallmarks indicating the silver purity standard, assay office mark, date letter, and maker mark, alongside hand-engraved scrollwork.

It can be suspended as a pendant on a contemporary silver necklace, attached to a traditional Albert pocket watch chain, or displayed within a glass collectors cabinet.

Clean the silver exterior gently with a dry silver polishing cloth, avoiding liquid dips that could penetrate internal spring mechanisms or strip naturally oxidized depth in engraved recesses.
