Antique Sterling Silver Jewelry Box - Tortoise Shell & Silver Pique Inlay

Description

A real stunner, one of the best I have had for quite some time. This beautiful trinket box is elevated on three very long elegant legs.

The lid of the box has some raised detailing in the classic ribbon and reed design. The centre is set with a large circular panel of antique tortoiseshell with gorgeous colouring and enhanced with a good glossy patina. The shell is inlaid with exquisite intricate silver pique inlay.

Of course all of this top-notch decoration is explained by the well renowned silversmith who made it, William Comyns. The box is also hallmarked for London 1909, Edwardian in era. Excellent condition, measuring 2 3/8" tall with a lid diameter measuring 3 1/4" in diameter.
