Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver pepper pots and casters emerged as essential dining accessories in Europe during the seventeenth century as imported spices became popular among wealthy households. Initially crafted as larger casters for sugar and spice, smaller individual pepper pots became widespread throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods as formal table service evolved.

Traditional antique pepper pots were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, comprising 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Some examples were produced in silver plate or Britannia metal, featuring pierced domed tops to allow the controlled dispensing of finely ground spices.

Authentic British sterling silver pepper pots feature a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These typically include the makers initials, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, an assay office symbol such as the Birmingham anchor, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Antique silver tableware can be styled by grouping contrasting metal pieces together on a sideboard or incorporating silver pepper pots into everyday table arrangements. Displaying hallmarked silverware alongside simple contemporary ceramics creates an engaging juxtaposition of textures and historical periods.

Sterling silver should be cleaned using a soft microfiber cloth and a gentle silver polish formulated to remove tarnish without scratching the metal surface. To prevent corrosion caused by salt or residual moisture, silver containers should be washed in warm soapy water, rinsed thoroughly, and dried completely before storage.
