19th Century French Bronze Bust of Apollo

Description

A 19th Century French bronze bust of Apollo. Very well sculpted, this bronze was made using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method meaning that it has fine detail. The bronze also has good patination and stands on a gilt bronze plinth. Made for the Grand Tour market of the mid 19th century, probably in Paris. Unsigned. 300mm high, 180mm wide and 120mm deep. Circa 1860.

Apollo is a god in Greek mythology, and one of the Twelve Olympians. He is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis. He is the god of healing, medicine, archery, music, poetry and the sun. ... He also is a god of prophecy, and his Oracle at Delphi is very important.
