Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian fire fender is a low metal barrier or curb placed around the perimeter of a hearth to contain ash, embers, and coal. Made during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, cast iron versions often featured elaborate casting techniques, openwork motifs, and integrated supports for fire tools.

Georgian fenders were predominantly constructed from cast iron, wrought iron, brass, or a combination of iron with brass moulding. Cast iron allowed foundry workers to produce detailed low-relief patterns, classical motifs, and decorative upright supports.

Authentic period pieces display cast mould lines, slight weight asymmetries, and signs of hand-finishing on the reverse side. Surface patination, minor pitting, and original threaded or riveted assembly joints further distinguish period cast iron from modern reproductions.

An antique fender can be positioned in front of a functional open fire or stove to define the hearth space. Alternatively, it serves as a decorative boundary around a non-working fireplace filled with logs, candles, or architectural displays.

Keep cast iron dry to prevent oxidation and rust formation. Clean gently using a soft brush or dry cloth, and apply a thin layer of traditional black grate polish or iron paste to preserve the dark finish and protect against moisture.
