Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Classical column table lamps feature architectural proportions inspired by ancient Greek and Roman orders, such as Corinthian or Ionic capitals, mounted on stepped pedestal bases. Popularised during the Regency and Empire periods, these designs transposed classical architectural elements into functional metalwork lighting.

These lamps were typically cast in solid brass, bronze, or spelter, featuring hand-chased relief detail and weighted bases for stability. Originally manufactured as oil or fluid lamps, many were converted to electrical fitments during the twentieth century while retaining their original metal patination.

Authentic period examples display internal cast seams inside the base, hand-chased decorative detail rather than modern uniform stamping, and natural oxidisation within receded crevices. Evidence of historical burner conversion, such as sealed filling holes or adaptors, also indicates early nineteenth-century manufacture.

Position the lamp on a modern sideboard, console, or dark wood desk to create an architectural focal point. Pairing the patinated brass finish with a tailored silk or linen drum shade balances traditional ornamentation with clean modern lines.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft lint-free cloth or soft-bristle brush to clear receded detail without scratching the metal surface. Avoid abrasive metal polishes and chemical solvents, as these strip away historical patination and compromise the original finish.
