Antique Victorian Walnut Wellington Chest of 9 Drawers

A stunning original Wellington chest of drawers ideal for filing paperwork.

We are delighted to bring to you this fine example of a rare late Victorian to Edwardian (circa 1890) 9 drawer Wellington chest of drawers made from walnut.

This Wellington chest features fully lockable drawers via locking the top drawer via its original brass lever lock and its original key. The simple yet unusual mechanism works by folding the left and right hinged lock bars either side behind the top drawer which securely locks all of the drawers in place. Usually Wellington chests have one lock bar to one side which incorporates a lock in-itself. Also unusually, this chest has a lovely full grain silver tooled green writing Leather to the top for note making.

This simple yet elegant chest is in fantastic condition featuring its lightly faded French polished finish with a lovely warm Walnut colour. The drawers are in good condition, smoothly operating with little to no drawer wear and are very clean inside. The drawers all have a dropped back to allow the drawers to come out further and drop down on an angle allowing extended access to the drawers which makes this chest ideal for filing and organising paperwork, magazine collections or even music sheets.

We have sympathetically restored, carefully cleaned and waxed this cabinet, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen and the item is ready for its new home.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
