Description

This 110 year old runner is an incredible survivor! The pile is 2cm thick allover and is amazing to feel. The extraordinary length of pile means not only do the stunning natural dyes glow particularly strongly but also that this runner has the potential to easily last another 110 years. The repeat medallion design in green, light blue, navy blue and white float on a gorgeous brick red field, surrounded by many borders of green, light blue, black and white. The main border has polychrome rosettes on three sides but on the nearest border in the main photo, the weaver used a slightly different pattern, a border often referred to as 'Kufic' as it partly resembles script. I cannot explain why this happened except to say that this was something that the weaver had the freedom to do, or changed her mind and carried on anyway and is a great reason why we love antique rugs!
