Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The body is extensively engraved with geometric patterns and foliar details. There is a central vacant cartouche and the striker is found to the base. Unusually, the hinge opens on the right, suggesting use by a left handed person. Once open it reveals a richly gilded interior. An interesting and desirable example and a good collector's piece.
