Circa 1860. An exhibition quality mid Victorian burr walnut desk of unusual proportions. The top with two shaped shelves, supported by fluted uprights, the lower tier with a similar moulded edge supported on a wonderful scrolling arm which finishes with a pair of substantial finials. The top drawer pulls out to reveal a tooled and gilded leather insert writing surface, with inkwell to one side. The drawer is moulded and has fine burr walnut facing, side of this there is a pair of ribbed sections and three further drawers beneath each with raised shaped panels in burr walnut, with a single hinged locking arm, which secures all three drawers. The sides are in burr walnut and the whole piece rests on an enclosed moulded base.
