In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It comes with its original working key.
The top opens up to reveal fitted partitions for holding papers and letters. The lid is lined with a beautiful deep purple silk.
It is in good original condition and although it has been used it has obviously been very well looked after over the years. There have been some small repairs and there are a few small knocks and marks around the outside, general signs of age and light use but nothing detrimental. The hinges have some damage but they are still strong and sturdy. The box has been cleaned and gently polished and overall it displays beautifully.
