Webberley Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The square seated thickly veneered in walnut and with arched well shaped splat.
Front legs with matching well carved scrolls at the hips. The back legs are ogee shaped and raked with a single turned stretcher.
In original condition with no later timbers, no breaks/repairs or significant knocks or restorations and no woodworm. There are two replaced but very old glue blocks beneath the drop in seat pad. The seat pad is newly upholstered in a fine quality heavy weight Zoffany (Brocatello) fabric in beautiful burgundy and antique gold colours.
A tremendous early chair of real quality, beautifully made by hand in c. 1740, of a sinuous and elegant form .... looks as though it would walk to you if you called
