A rare 18th-century Cartel Clock by William Webster (Jr.) – London
An extremely rare English striking fusee gilt wood Cartel clock.
The leaf-carved gilt rococo style case encloses a 7.5? silvered engraved dial with Roman numerals and Arabic five-minute markers surrounding a signed centre with mock pendulum and calendar aperture, regulation aperture above 12 and Strike/Silent lever at 3, fronting an eight-day double fusee movement with verge escapement striking the hours on a bell
Note: English fusee Cartel clocks are extremely rare. It’s believed that only a small number were made around the middle of the 18th century. This particular example is signed William Webster, London.
