Country Homes Antiques Stirling has dated this piece to the Before 1700 period.

Condition; There are no signs of woodworm, The bulbous turnings have some seasoning splits due to age. Also header has 1 or 2 small splits on the fielding's, otherwise complete with a deep patina. There has been 1 small piece of cornice replaced in Victorian times. The bed itself is of a quite crude construction with turnings as you would expect from this early period of provincial furniture, but sound and oozes charm and character. The end posts are unbelievably heavy. Probably the heaviest we have came upon on 40 + years! Originally turned from green timbers, hence near 400 years of seasoning can be seen in them.

Charles II was born on 29th May 1630 at St James' Palace, son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria. He fought alongside his father against Oliver Cromwell 's forces throughout much of the English Civil War. He escaped to the continent before his father was beheaded on 30th January 1649.
