Exquisite Silver Plated Biscuit Box by William Hutton - Ferns & Swallows C.1860

Description

A wonderful Victorian biscuit box made by the renowned silversmith, William Hutton, around 1860.

The box is beautifully engraved with large English ferns, so British and so Victorian. This is the first example I have had with flying Swallows engraved amidst the foliage. The integral tray is also decorated with fern engraving and the three cast feet are in the form of fern fronds.

The hinge is in perfect working order and the lid fits well, the domed top is crowned with a finial in the from of a wheat sheaf.

Excellent condition (a couple of tiny dings, mentioned purely for accuracy) measuring 8 1/2" high with the diameter of the stand measuring 7 1/2".
