Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William and Mary chest on stand is a late 17th-century storage piece featuring an upper chest of drawers mounted upon a separate base elevated by legs. Originating during the joint reign of William III and Mary II, this design elevated functional drawer storage to eye level while displaying decorative timber veneers and brass hardware.

Chests from this era were typically constructed using solid pine or oak carcases veneered with figure-rich walnut, olive, or laburnum wood. Drawers were built with hand-cut dovetail joints and thick oak linings, fitted with cast brass backplate drop handles and brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period examples feature hand-sawn drawer linings, wide dovetail jointing, and hand-tooled finishings on the reverse panels. Genuine age patination around keyholes, historical drawer wear, and timber shrinkage gaps consistent with multi-century age also indicate authenticity.

A chest on stand functions as a prominent focal point in an entry hall, bedroom, or living area. Positioning the warm walnut timber against neutral plaster walls or clean architectural lines highlights the historic grain pattern and silhouette.

Maintain stable humidity levels away from direct sunlight and radiator heat to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the wood surface.
