A superb early 18th-century George I carved walnut chair, circa 1720. England
The figured walnut volute carved violin splat terminates to a fixed moulded shoe and is most elegantly flanked by cascading s-scroll styles. The bell-shaped seat is raised on two cabriole legs shell carved and gadrooned to the ears terminating on pad feet and two out swept to the back, similarly, on pad.
The period needlework is divine depicting a courting couple in period dress surrounded by flowers and a pair of lambs in the foreground.
The chair is in lovely original condition and is of very good colour and well patinated.
