Here is a large and imposing watercolour - ‘Trawlers off Spithead’ by William Henry Pearson, inscribed, signed and dated 1909, and presented in its original gilt frame.
The picture measures 89cm by 43cm framed with the image measuring 71cm by x 25cm, and depicts four fishing smacks out at sea off the coast of Spithead in the Solent. The pictures evokes a real sense of movement and the elements, with the four boats on a choppy turquoise swell, chased by seagulls for their catch - you can almost feel the salt spray in the air.
William Pearson is best known for his seascapes and sailing ship paintings, he was a prolific maritime artist and his works have been sold extensively by the major auction houses.
The painting is in good original condition, with some minor losses and wear to the frame commensurate with its age, but these are barely visible when displayed, please see photographs.
