Condition Report:

This is a superb quality antique English Georgian Regency pair of pedestal cabinets, constructed from figured mahogany, with large proportions, circa 1820, in excellent original condition. They are pedestals from a large Georgian sideboard, which have been adapted into a pair of pedestal cabinets at some point in the past. The pair of pedestal cabinets have been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, the colour and patination of mahogany is of an excellent standard. There are no cup marks to the tops. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside the cupboards, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All applied reeded beadings are intact and in excellent condition. The Georgian mahogany cabinets retain the original brass lever side locks, with working key. The internal drawers retain the original brass swan neck handles and linings. The pair of pedestal cabinets stand on their original turned feet. The frames are constructed of top-quality solid mahogany; which gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use. The cabinet interiors are dry and clean. These pair of pedestal cabinets are solid in joint, they do not wobble and are ready to use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency period furniture, dating roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical symmetry, clean geometric outlines, and rich wood veneers. Designers favoured figure-rich timbers such as flame mahogany and rosewood, combining simple functional forms with refined architectural moulding.

Nineteenth-century pedestal cabinets were predominantly constructed using solid oak or pine internal carcasses lined with high-grade timber veneers, such as flame mahogany or walnut. Mouldings and turned foot elements were crafted from solid matching hardwoods.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer work, original brass or steel hinges, and irregular back boards. Natural patination and signs of historical wear on the feet and handles also indicate genuine age.

A pair of Regency cabinets can serve as substantial bedside tables flanking a upholstered bedstead or be positioned on either side of a living room fireplace. The deep timber tones contrast effectively with neutral wall finishes and modern textiles.

Dust mahogany furniture regularly using a dry, soft lint-free cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the lustre of the finish. Avoid placing timber cabinets directly adjacent to radiators or under constant direct sunlight to prevent drying and fading.
