Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian portraiture from the mid-to-late eighteenth century focused on capturing the social stature, attire, and elegance of wealthy individuals. Sitters were commonly depicted in formal clothing, such as frock coats, powdered wigs, and elaborate cravats, painted with smooth brushwork against muted or shadowed backgrounds.

Artisans during this period used hand-ground oil pigments mixed with linseed oil applied directly onto natural linen canvases stretched over timber frames. Framing typically featured hand-carved wood decorated with burnished gold leaf gilding over a gesso base.

Authentic works exhibit natural age-related craquelure across the paint layer, oxidisation of the canvas fabric on the reverse, and original hand-forged tacks or wooden keys securing the stretcher. Wear to the gold leaf frame often reveals the reddish bole layer underneath.

A classic oil portrait can be hung above a console table or mantelpiece to create a striking focal point, or integrated into an eclectic gallery wall alongside modern abstract artwork for layered visual contrast.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, dampness, and active heat sources to prevent cracking and canvas distortion. Dust gently with a dry, ultra-soft brush, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or damp cloths on the painted surface.
