N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This stunning antique tavern wall clock has a mahogany case with a fantastic rich colour and grain.
The body of the case is then rectangular with inlet reeded front edges as well as a lovely glass viewing window to the door so that the pendulum and weights can be seen. The glass window is then framed by shaped brass as well as the edge of the door being shaped in a similar way to the top tying the whole clock together nicely. Finally the bottom of the case is shaped in a lovely manner which finishes off the case perfectly.
The dial is then brass with a silvered chapter ring set out in black Roman numerals as well as every five minutes being marked in Arabic numerals. The centre of the dial then has a lovely pitted effect and is signed by the maker "Springall Norwich" to a small silvered disk. The dial is then finished by two beautifully shaped hands as well as a domed, protective glass set into a shaped brass bezel.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed by removing the hood. The movement is an 8 day example and has smaller barrels typical of a tavern clock to compensate for the size of the case compared to a grandfather clock. The movement is also ticking away as it should and chimes the number of hours on the hour via a bell. Finally the movement comes complete with its two beautiful brass cased weights, its brass fronted pendulum, and its winding key.
