M Lees and Sons has dated this Dutch Colonial Teak Chest to the 19th Century.
. The trunk with decorative pierced brass corner mounts , domed studded bolts , elaborate pierced gilt brass escutcheon plate with working lock and key , and fitted with side carrying handles . The inside of the lid with decorative brass strap hinges. (One brass knob pull missing to drawer) .

Conceived in the C18th , these prestigious travelling chests were manufactured for Dutch officers and officials of the VOC trading company.

In good original condition, having decorative presence and providing practical storage. Minors historic wear and repairs , commensurate with age , use and purpose.
Probably Ceylonese , Dutch colonial.
