Here is an incredibly handsome military chest dating to the mid 19th century, once the proud possession of Sergent JT Robinson of Manchester, serving in the R.A.M C.T Regiment.
I have contacted the National Army museum who believe this to relate to the Royal Army Medical Corps, but the inclusion of the letter ''T'' has left them baffled - they are sure though that this chest would have been used to store Sergent Robinsons kit and uniform, and that it dates to the 19th century.
It is a heavy wooden chest with metal handles at each end and metal plates on each corner, large metal rivets on the top - painted black with the inscription applied in gilt to the front side - also of particular note and interest are two old railway labels for the North Eastern Railway.
Inside the chest is lined with paper - I have left this intact as it is sheets of the Manchester Guardian and dates from the early 1950''s and I thought it added to the chests history and charm - it can of course be rem...oved very easily.
Please don''t hesitate to get in touch if I can offer and more information or if you''d like more photographs
